Day 14 - Bastille Day

Happy Bastille Day from Velleron, France. In 1789, the common folk of Paris stormed the Bastille on July 14, pretty irritated by the whole concept of feudalism. And, a couple weeks later (August 4, 1789), the French abolished fuedalism as a form of practice/government. Pretty cool when the "common" folk get pissed off and rebel. Seems that we may need some of that these days in our own country, what with the abysmal state of our political assemblies, environmental damage, financial recession, higher taxes and an all around sour mood in the US.

But, in honor of the French, I decided to spend the day enjoying the nice summer weather in Provence. The photo for today pretty much sums up the grand total of my activities for the day, i.e., sitting by the pool and reading a bit of French history.
